NYBC remains dedicated to its mission of providing the safest, highest-quality transfusion products to all in need including cancer and surgery patients, accident and burn victims, AIDS and sickle cell anemia patients, transplant recipients, hemophiliacs and many others. NYBC also has a growing medical agenda. Our Clinical Services Program provides state-of-the-art transfusion services and over 8,500 highly specialized patient care procedures each year at hospitals in the tri-state area. Our Hemophilia Services Program ensures over 1,500 local hemophilia patients have access to the 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week care, counseling and clotting factors they require. NYBC has designed and executed extensive donor screening programs for cholesterol and high blood pressure. Most recently, NYBC's Cardiovascular Disease Risk Assessment and Prevention Program, a demonstration project, will provide free screening, risk assessment, education, and referral of at-risk persons for further evaluation and treatment. The program is intended to advance cardiovascular disease prevention, motivate lifestyle changes, and ultimately improve the health of the people who provide 450,000 blood donations each year to NYBC.

NYBC also serves as the New York area registry for the National Marrow Donor Program. Since 1989, NYBC has helped register close to 200,000 potential bone marrow donors and has had a hand in bringing close to 600 donors through the life-saving marrow donation process. NYBC is also home to the National Cord Blood Program, which began in 1992 and today is the world's oldest and largest public cord blood bank and has provided cord blood grafts for over 2,800 life-saving transplants. Finally, NYBC is also home to the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, a world-renown institution whose more than a dozen laboratories are at the forefront of basic and applied hematological research.
